Top 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Hybrid Cars

So, you're looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, but you're not ready yet to go all-electric? Not even a plug-in hybrid? There are many other alternatives with impressive fuel economy that might interest you.

Based on the ratings by Natural Resources Canada, we have compiled a list of the 10 most fuel-efficient regular hybrid cars for the 2019 model year.

10. Ford Fusion Hybrid
The gas-electric variant of Ford's midsize sedan achieves a pretty respectable score of 5.6 L/100 km in combined city-highway driving. Not bad for such a roomy car!

9. Lexus ES 300h
Lexus still does not offer a fully electric vehicle, but as Toyota's luxury brand it sells quite a lineup of hybrid models. The ES 300h is the most efficient at 5.3 L/100 km.

8. Toyota Prius c
Like Lexus, Toyota has a number of hybrid models in its portfolio. The little Prius c cracks this Top 10 with an average fuel consumption of 5.1 L/100 km. Please note it shares very few components with the standard Prius.

7. Chevrolet Malibu Hybride
One of the few American cars to make our list, the Malibu Hybrid stands out with a combined rating of 5.1 L/100 km, including a rather impressive 4.8 L/100 km in the city.

6. Honda Accord Hybrid
Honda also relies on hybrid technology to improve the fuel economy of its midsize sedan. The Accord Hybrid averages 5.0 L/100 km.

5. Toyota Camry Hybrid
A direct rival of the Fusion, Malibu and Accord, the Toyota Camry Hybrid LE is the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in Canada for 2019 with an average rating of 4.9 L/100 km. The SE and XLE models achieve 5.1 L/100 km.

4. Honda Insight
In case you didn't know, the Honda Insight is back! Similar in size to the Honda Civic, this Japanese hybrid burns a combined 4.9 L/100 km in city-highway driving.

3. Kia Niro
Kia's small crossover is available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants. Even with a standard hybrid powertrain, the Niro is remarkably efficient at 4.7 L/100 km.

2. Toyota Prius
The Toyota Prius introduced North American drivers to hybrid cars when it launched here more than 20 years ago. Even today, it ranks as one of the most fuel-efficient with a combined rating of 4.4 L/100 km.

1. Hyundai IONIQ
Surprise! The Prius is not the king of hybrids anymore. That title goes to the Hyundai IONIQ, which manages to burn a mere 4.1 L/100 km. By the way, it's also available in plug-in hybrid and electric configurations.
