Antoine's 10 Most Memorable 2019 Models

Published on August 8, 2019 in Top 10 by Antoine Joubert

I have so far driven more than 100 new 2019 models, from the tiny Chevrolet Spark to the big and powerful Mercedes-AMG GT-R PRO.

It's time for me to do a recap. So, without further ado, here are the 10 vehicles that made the biggest impression on me.

10. Ford Edge ST
A memorable vehicle... in a bad way. Ford is trying to convince us that the Edge ST is a sports car in the body of an SUV, but that's far from the reality. The drive is too smooth and electronics play too big a role. Even the power feels artificial. This is my disappointment of the year.

9. Volkswagen Arteon
This is how you get an Audi for $20,000 less. This large, coupe-like sedan is super-stylish, practical thanks to the rear hatch and has all the comfort and luxury of an Audi A5 Sportback. It's a big breath of fresh air in today's SUV-obsessed world.

8. Toyota Supra
This sports car is aimed at purists, even though it lacks a manual gearbox. The reborn Supra combines the expertise of BMW and Toyota to deliver outstanding driving dynamics and real thrills behind the wheel.

7. Acura NSX
Acura's supercar is not new for 2019, but I got to drive it for the very first time and I fell in love with its performance and precision. It's a car that can make you a better driver even after just a few kilometres. Braking power is just as impressive as handling and acceleration.

6. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Compact SUVs are immensely popular and every manufacturer wants a piece of the pie. With the new RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota has all the ingredients to remain the leader. Quieter, roomier, more powerful and equipped with a better AWD system, this vehicle also burns less than 6 L/100 km. No one can't beat that.

5. Ram 1500
FCA has had its fair share of troubles and is still struggling to keep up with the rest of the industry. But the all-new Ram 1500 is a testament to the automaker's strong know-how. It's more robust, more comfortable, more refined than ever and it features more innovations and clever tricks than the competition.

4. Tesla Model 3
Tesla is the EV leader and every other manufacturer is just trying to catch up. Driving the Model 3 made me realize how different their approach is. This car is a technological marvel, fun to drive and smartly designed in every way. If all other cars were Android, Tesla would be Apple.

3. BMW X5
Whether it's the gasoline model or the electrified variant, the X5 is in my opinion the best surprise in a segment filled with new 2019 models. Exceptional comfort, increased power, far better fit and finish, and above-average driving excitement. The looks are quite nice, too, even though I can't tell you which part is my favourite.

2. Mazda3 AWD
The next-generation Mazda3 is a stylish car with a level of refinement and technology unseen in traditional compacts. Obviously, the addition of AWD helps it stand out even more, but its fun-to-drive nature is still the thing I love the most about it.

1. Jeep Gladiator
I've recently spent time in the new Gladiator and I had a blast! Derived from the Wrangler, this pickup is incredibly versatile.

It's also a fearsome off-roader, practical, convertible, more comfortable than I imagined and capable of towing 7,400 pounds with ease.
