Top 10 Best New Models at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show

Published on September 12, 2019 in Frankfurt by Frédéric Mercier

Once again, the Frankfurt Auto Show lived up to its reputation of delivering major premieres from the industry.

The Car Guide was on hand to cover the event and here are the 10 new models that most caught our attention.

Land Rover Defender
Following months of anticipation, the all-new Land Rover Defender made its big debut in Frankfurt. Physically, the Defender is instantly recognized as a member of the Land Rover family, yet it boasts a unique silhouette full of boxy shapes. It will come to Canada next year with two wheelbases and two powertrain options.

Volkswagen ID.3
The electric ID.3 marks the debut of another era for the German automaker, which seized the opportunity to also launch a new logo and brand image. The most potent battery available has a range of 550 km according to the WLTP standard. Unfortunately, there are no plans to sell the ID.3 here in North America.

Porsche Taycan
Unveiled initially at separate events that took place on September 4, the new electric sports car from Porsche obviously made a stop in Frankfurt. With up to 750 horsepower and more than 400 km of range, it means business!

Audi AI:TRAIL quattro
When it comes to concepts, none were more spectacular than Audi's AI:TRAIL quattro, which might be closer to a Mars rover than an automobile. Drones serve as headlights—for real.

Audi RS 7 2020
Audi also delighted the crowd in Frankfurt with the premiere of the 2020 RS 7, which will go on sale shortly. Equipped with a twin-turbo V8 rated at 590 horsepower, this sexy German reaches 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

BMW Concept 4
Yes, this Concept 4 is the inspiration for the next-generation 4 Series line of cars, which will likely distance itself from the BMW 3 Series regarding exterior design. Get a hold of that grille!

Hyundai 45 EV Concept
Here's another concept that turned heads in Frankfurt. The 45 is a nod to the original Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept, which debuted in 1974—or 45 years ago. It foreshadows the design direction of future EV models at Hyundai.

MINI Cooper SE
Introduced back in July, the fully electric MINI Cooper SE made its first public appearance in Frankfurt. With a 32.6-kWh battery, this car offers a range of 235-270 km.

Lamborghini Sián
Lamborghini unveiled a brand new hybrid supercar with unprecedented power, speed and technology. Called Sián, which means “flash” or “lightning” in Bolognese dialect, it represents the first step in Lamborghini’s route to electrification—and a response to Ferrari’s equally new SF90 Stradale.

Honda e
Since the launch of the Urban EV Concept two years ago and the Honda e Prototype earlier this year, the Honda e has generated quite a buzz. It is aimed at European and Japanese customers primarily, but there are no plans to sell it in Canada, unfortunately.
