Car maintenance is much simpler and less expensive when it comes to electric vehicles due to the reduced number of components. Also, their battery is covered by a generous warranty that typically reaches eight years or 160,000 kilometres.

That being said, there are certain things EV owners can do to maximize the performance and longevity of their vehicle.

Hyundai, which currently offers electric variants of the Kona and IONIQ, not to mention a fuel-cell crossover called NEXO, recently posted a short video that provides five useful tips. Find out what they are in the gallery above!

1. Avoid discharging the battery to low levels, specifically below 20% capacity.

2. Charge more frequently in order to prevent the battery from draining too much.

3. Avoid extended periods of hard acceleration and drive smoothly.

4. Park in the shade whenever you plan to leave your EV for an extended period.

5. If possible, lower your maximum charging limit, as charging from 80% to 100% takes a greater toll than from 20% to 80%.
