Spring maintenance is something every self-respecting car owner should care about. It’s quite a bit different this year with the coronavirus forcing many people to stay home and keeping their cars in the driveway.

Is that your case? Be careful, Nissan says: “The longer a vehicle sits unused, the more likely it is to develop issues.”

In the photo gallery above, you will find five tips to maintain your car in good shape until things finally get back to normal.

Keep the Battery Charged
A short drive around the block or a trickle charger will work.

Fight Surface Rust and Keep Fluids Circulating
Again, a 15-minute drive will do the trick. Driving your vehicle and applying the brakes will clean off any surface rust caused by humidity before it becomes a bigger problem. At the same time, the vital parts will stay lubricated and not dry out.

Check the Fluids
The engine oil, transmission oil, coolant and brake fluid are all essential to the long-term health of your vehicle. Be sure to check their levels occasionally.

Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated
First, check the tire pressure recommended by the manufacturer. Properly inflated tires will combat flat spots from developing and help maintain good handling. If you want, you can move your vehicle in the driveway, too.

Wash Your Car Regularly
This helps protect the paint, especially for vehicles parked outdoors. In particular during spring, don’t wait too long to remove bird poop from your car.
