SUVs You Can Still Buy With a Manual Gearbox in 2020

As you know, manual transmissions are on the way out, with fewer and fewer new models offering one. It’s especially sad when it comes to sports cars.

But what about SUVs and crossovers? After all, these vehicles prove much more popular among consumers. Sure, they’re more expensive, too, but keeping a stick and clutch allows some of them to maintain low base prices. Are they a good choice? That depends on your needs.

In the photo gallery above, we’ll present you every SUV and crossover that you can still buy with a manual gearbox in 2020. Naturally, this list is bound to change next year.

2020 Hyundai Venue – starting at $17,099
This subcompact SUV shares its 1.6-litre four-cylinder with the Accent Hatchback. If you opt for the CVT, the price gets bumped to $18,399.

2020 Jeep Compass – starting at $26,500
While the Renegade and Cherokee are exclusively automatic, the Compass still offers a manual transmission. Not for long, though: the 2021 model will get rid of it.

2020 Jeep Wrangler – starting at $35,695
Of course, you can always count on the legendary Wrangler to offer a manual gearbox. It’s available on a number of trim levels including the highly capable Rubicon, both with two doors and four doors.

2020 Mazda CX-3 -- starting at $21,045

2020 Nissan Qashqai – starting at $21,498
There’s a price gap of $4,700 between the manual Qashqai with FWD and the automatic version with AWD.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek – starting at $23,795
One of the rare SUVs available with both AWD and a manual gearbox, the Crosstrek offers the latter on three of its five trim levels. Remember, the updated 2021 model adds a more powerful engine (automatic only).

2021 Ford Bronco – starting at $40,499
You can reserve a copy now by making a $100 deposit on the Ford Canada website. Just like the Jeep Wrangler, the all-new Bronco offers a manual transmission. One of the seven gears is a special “crawl gear” for low-speed manoeuvres off the road.
