GMC has just resurrected the Hummer in the form of a fully electric pickup. How times have changed!

Here’s what we know and like about the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV

Rugged Looks

GMC designers successfully accomplished the difficult task of bringing back the Hummer and giving it a rugged, yet futuristic look. The new Hummer EV has the boxy silhouette of classic H2 and H3 models… and it proves much more attractive than Tesla’s Cybertruck!

Phenomenal Power

Equipped with three electric motors, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV delivers a phenomenal 1,000 horsepower and as much as 11,500 pound-feet of torque (measured at the wheels). This allows 0-97 km/h performance in as little as three seconds. Not bad for a full-size pickup, eh?

Promising Range

Featuring the automaker’s advanced Ultium battery technology, which was developed in a partnership with LG Chem, the Hummer EV promises a range of more than 560 kilometres and 800-volt DC public fast charging compatibility of up to 350 kilowatts, enabling nearly 160 kilometres of range in 10 minutes of charging.

Open-top Driving

Similar to the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator as well as the new Ford Bronco, the Hummer EV’s transparent roof panels and front T-bar can be removed and stowed in the front trunk (or frunk), creating a unique open-air experience.

CrabWalk

Thanks to a segment-exclusive, four-wheel steering technology called “CrabWalk,” the Hummer EV can move diagonally—for real. This will be quite useful for precise moves on challenging terrain.

Air Suspension

The GMC Hummer EV can be specified with an adaptive air suspension featuring an available Extract Mode, which enables the suspension height to be raised approximately six inches (149 millimetres)—great for extreme off-road situations such as clearing boulders.

Speaking of which, sturdy underbody steel plates strategically located around the battery pack and more to help provide protection.

Big Screens

The interior of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV is highlighted by a pair of big screens. A 12.3-inch digital driver information centre provides easy access to all vehicle functions, settings and driving data, while a large 13.4-inch touchscreen powered by a next-generation infotainment system sits in the middle. Many physical buttons remain, including the HVAC and off-road controls.

Tailgating Like a Pro

Introduced on the latest-generation GMC Sierra pickup, a six-position MultiPro tailgate increases the Hummer EV’s versatility.

Super Cruise

GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology used to be exclusive to Cadillac vehicles, but it will be available in the new Hummer EV, as well—a first for GMC. This system enables hands-free driving with automatic lane changing on divided and compatible roads.

A Long Wait

Even though the 2022 GMC Hummer EV presented this week is a production model and not just a concept, deliveries in Canada will not begin until the fall of 2022. Pricing has not been announced yet, but in the U.S. it ranges from $79,995-$112,995.
