Top 10 Electric Vehicles With the Longest Range

Published on April 7, 2021 in Top 10 by Felix Larouche

For many drivers, the range of an electric vehicle is the ultimate deal breaker. That being said, many modern EVs have similar, or even better range than their gas-powered equivalents!

While Tesla continues to be the leader in terms of range, many carmakers are making giant leaps foward, and catching up to Tesla's offering, at a fraction of the cost.

Here is a list of the top 10 EVs with the longest range, updated with the latest specs (Spring 2021)

10. Kia Soul EV – 383 km

Despite not being exactly.... aerodynamic, the Soul EV still lands a tenth position in this countdown. With a range of 383 km (as per Natural Ressources Canada), this is plenty for most Canadian motorists.

9. Kia Niro EV – 385 km

Even though it shares its battery with the Hyundai Kona EV, the Niro EV offers less range than its' sibling, with 385 km.

8. Volkswagen ID.4 – 402 km

After the diesel powertrain scandal, Volkswagen promised to invest in electrification. Not counting the e-Golf, the Volkswagen ID.4 is the brand's first proper EV to land on Canadian ground. With an EPA-estimated 402 km of range, you should be able to travel between Montreal and Quebec City without breaking a sweat.

Hyundai Kona EV – 415 km

The Hyundai Kona EV is part of the "affordable" EV club, but still offers impressive range. While this model will be recieving a facelift for the 2022 model year, the range estimate remains unchanged.

6. Chevrolet Bolt – 417 km

The Chevrolet Bolt will be undergoing a significant redesign for the 2022 model year. Unfortunately, the new model will not come with a higher range rating. With attractive pricing, incentives, and a generally constant inventory, the current Bolt remains a good choice for those looking for an EV.

5. Ford Mustang Mach-E – 483 km

If we leave the Focus EV aside, the new Ford Mustang Mach-E is the manufacturer's first big jump towards an electric future. With a range estimate of 491 km, it's quite impressive. The Mach-E is available with a choice of two different battery sizes, and in both RWD and AWD configurations. With its smaller battery, the RWD Mach-E delivers an estimated range of 483 km.

4. Tesla Model Y – 525 km

The Tesla Model Y can travel 525 km on a single charge, it also offers standard AWD! A Performance trim is also available, though range for that model drops to 488 km.

3. Tesla Model 3 – 568 km

Tesla's most affordable offering, the Tesla Model 3, can travel up to 568 km. But that's only with the "Long Range" trim. The base model (Standard Plus) offers 423 km, while the Performance version can travel 507 km on a single charge.

2. Tesla Model X – 580 km

With its bulkier size, the Tesla Model X can't beat Model S in terms of range, but we can agree that 580 km is still impressive nonetheless.

1. Tesla Model S – 837 km

The new Tesla Model S Plaid+ can travel 837 km on a single charge. It's important to note that while you can technically punch in you order for a Plaid+ today, deliveries won't begin until mid-2022. But even if you go for a base model that is readily available, the Model S is still on top, with 663 km of range on a single charge.
