Top 10 New Models on Display at Auto Shanghai 2021

Published on April 21, 2021 in Top 10 by Guillaume Rivard

While auto shows have yet to resume in North America, all eyes were on China this week as Auto Shanghai 2021 opened to the public, albeit with no foreign visitors.

Of course, many of the new models that made their debut are designed exclusively for the Chinese market, but some will also land here sooner or later.

Here are the 10 vehicles that most caught our attention at Auto Shanghai 2021…

10. Wey Cyber Tank 300

Another clone from China. No, the Cyber Tank 300 is not a military version of the Tesla Cybertruck! Rather, it’s a futuristic interpretation of two off-road icons, namely the Ford Bronco and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

9. Lincoln Zephyr Reflection

This sedan concept, which will turn into a production model later in 2021, revives an important nameplate in the brand’s long and rich history. It embodies American luxury with a fantastic take on Lincoln’s modern design aesthetics. And look at the full-width digital interface inside!

8. Volkswagen ID.6

While the German automaker openly touts its next generation of electric vehicles and is well aware that large SUVs and crossovers are very popular in North America, the sleek ID.6 is designed for China only. But you never know.…

7. Honda SUV e:prototype

At Auto Shanghai 2021, Honda unveiled a small electric SUV prototype that shares many similarities with the next-generation Honda HR-V. A production model will be launched in China in the spring of 2022. It could be another preview of the electric Honda/Acura vehicles set to come here in late 2023 with the help of GM.

6. Seres SF5

Smartphone maker Huawei is introducing its first-ever vehicle. Initially reserved for China, the Seres SF5 is a compact SUV with an engine/generator that charges the battery on the go to extend range. The exterior design is not too shabby, while the interior boasts a large, Tesla Model S-like centre display. Unsurprisingly, the infotainment system features the very latest technologies available, particularly when it comes to smartphone connectivity.

5. Mercedes-Benz EQB

Mercedes unveiled in Shanghai the all-new EQB compact SUV, which will go on sale in North America next year. Essentially an electric version of the gas-powered GLB, it looks sharp and sophisticated while offering many configurations. We hope the official specs will be good.

4. Polestar 1 Special Edition

Polestar revealed a special edition of the Polestar 1 electric performance hybrid that will reach end of production later this year. It features a bespoke matte gold exterior paint job with matching callipers and black wheels. Inside, colour-matched gold stitching gives the interior an even more unique feel. A maximum of 25 will be built.

3. Audi A6 e-tron Concept

While not as sporty as the e-tron GT introduced earlier this year, this electric midsize sedan concept in a Sportback body style foreshadows the launch of a production A6 e-tron that will be 95 percent identical, Audi promises. We can’t wait for that!

2. Genesis G80 Electrified

Genesis officially introduced its first electric vehicle, the Electrified G80, during a world premiere at Auto Shanghai 2021. It will launch in Canada in the near future, matching the sleek looks of the regular G80 while using the same platform as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6. Expect around 400 kilometres of range.

1. Toyota bZ4X

Is this the future RAV4? No, but the bZ4X concept previews a new electric SUV coming to North America next year. It combines the reliability and proven hybrid technology of Toyota with Subaru’s renowned AWD capabilities. In fact, the platform was jointly developed by the two companies.
