10 New Vehicles That Are Cheaper Than You Think

Published on August 26, 2021 in Top 10 by Guillaume Rivard

Prices have been rising significantly across the auto industry for the past couple of years. The COVID-19 pandemic only made things worse by creating increased demand, not to mention the chip shortage and production delays that have emptied dealer lots from coast to coast.

If you’re shopping for a new vehicle, the good news is that some models are probably cheaper than you think. Here are 10 examples…

Note: Prices are the manufacturers’ suggested retail prices (MSRP) at the time of writing and do not include any other fees.

2021 Acura ILX – MSRP of $30,805
While the TLX and RDX (a compact sedan and SUV, respectively) are now priced just shy of $45,000, the small ILX barely tops $30,000. Sure, there are more modern and sophisticated options in the segment, but it’s still a good-looking, efficient and fun-to-drive car.

2021 Cadillac CT5 – MSRP of $40,098
With the elimination of the full-size CT6, the CT5 is now the largest sedan in the Cadillac lineup. It offers a much sportier driving experience than what we are used to from this traditionally comfort-oriented luxury brand. The interior is superbly appointed, too. While most rivals largely exceed $40,000, this premium compact sedan is quite reasonably priced.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV – MSRP of $38,198
The freshly launched 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV has received a notable update, yet GM slashed the price by $6,800. It now carries a base MSRP of $38,198. And don’t forget the federal rebate of $5,000 and provincial incentives ranging from $3,000-$8,000. Pretty cheap for an electric car with 417 km of range.

2021 Chevrolet Camaro – MSRP of $29,598
The Camaro is attracting much fewer fans than before and facing an uncertain future. But unlike the Mustang and Challenger, this muscle car starts at just under $30,000. Remember that.

2022 Infiniti QX60 – MSRP of $54,995
We’ve included the 2022 Infiniti QX60 even though it will arrive in dealerships later this year. Completely redesigned, this three-row luxury SUV looks sleek and costs a lot less money than German, Swedish and even Korean rivals (Genesis GV80). Don’t forget the Acura MDX, which is also new for 2022 and priced from $56,405.

2022 Ford Maverick – MSRP of $25,900
Modern pickups are all priced way above $30,000… but not the all-new 2022 Maverick (28 cm shorter than the Ranger), which has a base MSRP of just $25,900 and comes with a hybrid powertrain on top of that. It’s no wonder Ford has already received over 100,000 reservations.

2022 Hyundai Elantra – MSRP of $17,999
Despite the elimination of the Accent and Elantra GT, Hyundai continues to offer highly affordable vehicles. Completely redesigned for 2021, the Elantra compact sedan returns for 2022 with a minor hike yet remains just under $18,000 in base trim. Quite a gap with the new 2022 Honda Civic starting at $24,465...

2022 Hyundai Tucson – MSRP of $27,799
It’s getting harder and harder to find compact SUVs under $30,000, but the brand new 2022 Tucson can be had from just $27,799 in FWD configuration and $29,799 with AWD.

2022 Kia Carnival – MSRP of $34,795
Replacing the Sedona, the all-new 2022 Carnival starts at $34,795, which is just $800 above the redesigned 2021 Sorento, another three-row Kia (with much less interior space, of course). Every other minivan out there is more expensive, including the value-focused Grand Caravan ($37,995) that’s now sold as a Chrysler.

2021 Subaru Impreza – MSRP of $19,995
The Impreza is still the cheapest AWD vehicle in Canada and still priced from under $20,000, incredibly. Thank you very much for that, Subaru. Customers should hurry to find a 2021 model, though, because the base MSRP for 2022 is increased to $21,995.
