Electrification is not just for new vehicles. Older models and classic cars can be turned into full EVs, too. All it takes is a willing automaker, tuning company or some enthusiast with a lot of time, skill and money.

Volkswagen e-Bulli
This 1966 VW Samba Bus has a 61-kW (83 hp) motor and is twice as powerful as the original, four-cylinder model. 

Electra Meccanica E-Roadster
B.C.’s Electra Meccanica created the E-Roadster as an electric variant of the legendary 1959 Porsche 356 Roadster. It has a range of 260 km with a 50-kWh battery.

Ford F-100 Eluminator

Seen at the 2021 SEMA Show, the Ford F-100 Eluminator concept borrows its powertrain and some of its interior from the 480-hp Mustang Mach-E GT Performance.

Electric GT Porsche 911 RSR
Also seen at SEMA, this Porsche 911 RSR restomod boasts a 435-hp electric motor and can travel 250 km without burning any fuel, thanks to Electric GT from California.

Aston Martin DB6 Volante 1970
Aston Martin has an electrification program for classic cars. This 1970 DB6 Volante uses the technology from the late Rapide E.

Charge Automotive Mustang
Charge Automotive, based in London, U.K., took a 1967 Ford Mustang and switched the gasoline engine with an electric motor producing 350 kW (469 hp) and 885 lb-ft of torque. Watch the electrifying burnout!

Jaguar E-type Zero
The 1968 Jaguar E-type is one of the most revered cars of all time. The E-Type Zero conversion features a 220-kW motor derived from the I-PACE crossover and hits 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Volkswagen e-Bus
California’s EV West specializes in EV conversions. When asked by Volkswagen to work on a 1972 Bus, the company turned to the e-Golf for motivation.

A Nissan Bluebird (which later became the Altima) was fitted with a LEAF powertrain including a 40-kWh battery for the 35th anniversary of Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the U.K.
