Do you care about where a vehicle comes from when making a purchase decision? We’re not talking about the manufacturer, but rather the assembly plant.

Some models are built in different countries than one might expect, either because of cost concerns, logistics purposes or contracts between automakers and their partners.

Here are 10 vehicles sold in Canada in 2022 that come from surprising places…

Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX

The Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX are both made in South Korea.

Mercedes-Benz GLB

The Mercedes-Benz GLB is built in Mexico at the same plant as the Infiniti QX50 and QX55.

Audi Q7 and Q8

Audi’s two largest SUVs, the Q7 and Q8, come from Bratislava, Slovakia.

Jeep Renegade

The little Jeep Renegade is manufactured in Melfi, Italy, alongside the Fiat 500X.

Volvo XC40 and C40

The Volvo XC40 small SUV rolls off the line in Ghent, Belgium. Ditto for the fully electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge.

Toyota GR Supra

Developed alongside the BMW Z4, the Toyota GR Supra is built at the same Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria.

Land Rover Defender

The new Land Rover Defender is not made in the U.K., but rather Nitra, Finland.

Buick Envision

Since launching as a 2016 model, the Buick Envision is exclusively produced in China by GM-SAIC.

Audi Q3

Canadian units of the popular Audi Q3 come from Hungary.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class

The iconic G-Class is built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. Its upcoming EQG electric variant will be made in Alabama like the EQS SUV, however.
