Top 10 New Vehicles We've Reviewed in 2022

Published on December 25, 2022 in Top 10 by Louis-Philippe Dubé

Another year is coming to a close, and this one had lots of ups and downs across the auto industry, which is dealing with supply chain disruptions on one hand and undergoing an EV-driven transformation on the other hand.

Here are the top 10 new vehicles we've reviewed in 2022.

2023 Hyundai IONIQ 6

Following the highly successful IONIQ 5 crossover, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is an aerodynamically shaped electric sedan with a drag coefficient of just 0.21 and a range of up to 547 km.

The Car Guide’s Gabriel Gélinas took it for a spin in South Korea. Don’t miss his review.

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning

Electrifying the best-selling vehicle in North America made perfect sense. The F-150 Lightning is the first electric pickup to hit the road in Canada. Despite range issues when towing, Ford is nowhere near close to meeting demand right now.

The dual-motor F-150 Lightning generates up to 580 horsepower thanks to a 131kWh battery.

2023 Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is all-new for 2023 with a fifth generation that is much sleeker than the previous ones and more likely to appeal to a large number of people.

It also benefits from several key upgrades when it comes to the powertrain and battery. Check out our first-drive review.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz

For more than 20 years, Volkswagen has been teasing fans of the iconic Bus with various concepts and talks of a possible return. Unveiled last March, the all-new ID. Buzz is a futuristic interpretation of the lovable van that’s set to join the German automaker’s lineup of electric vehicles—but only in 2024 in Canada.

2023 Toyota GR Corolla

A refreshing addition that makes us forget about all those uninspiring crossovers, here’s a Japanese hot hatch with 300 horsepower under the hood—from Toyota. Yeah. We have a review right here, and another one in case you need a second opinion. Let’s just say both of our reviewers were impressed by the GR Corolla.

2023 Toyota Crown

The boldly styled Toyota Crown made plenty of headlines in 2022. Featuring a standard hybrid powertrain, it offers XLE and Limited models with 236 horsepower and combined fuel consumption of just 5.7 L/100 km. The top-line Crown Platinum boosts output to 340 horsepower and still burns less than 8 L/100 km on average.

2023 VinFast VF 8

Vietnamese automaker VinFast launched in Canada this year with a pair of electric SUVs offering intriguing performance and technology. However, the battery leasing program is a questionable move, styling is a bit polarizing, and reliability is a big unknown. A few stores have opened in Ontario and Quebec, with more to come in 2023.

Don’t miss our review of the VinFast VF 8.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is the luxury brand’s first foray into electric vehicles. With a range of up to 502 km, a spacious interior and great performance, this new model is generating strong demand.

2023 Nissan Z

In an effort to win over sporty driving enthusiasts like it once did, Nissan launched an all-new Z with styling cues from past generations and a potent 400-horsepower V6 under the hood. It looks so hot, no wonder many people are fighting to get one.

2023 CMC Hummer EV

Weighing more than 9,000 pounds and looking like an invader from outer space, the Hummer is now fully electric. Just like its predecessors burned gasoline at an alarming rate, this one uses up electrons in unreasonable fashion. Pricing is outrageous, as well, but some of the technologies on board are totally unique, like Crab Walk.

We have a lot more to say about the Hummer EV in our lengthy review.
