Who doesn’t love to drive a sporty car? There are plenty of options out there, no matter what you need or what your budget is. Unfortunately, fuel consumption can often be a problem, especially with gas prices trending upwards once again.

Some models do manage to combine performance with efficiency, though. Here are 10 sporty cars with great fuel economy you can buy right now. We didn’t include EVs, of course.

Note: The fuel consumption ratings you’ll find over the next slides are those posted by Natural Resources Canada and were accurate as of May 2023.

2023 BMW M240i xDrive

Don’t overlook the M240i xDrive slotting below the almighty M2. With 382 hp and 9 L/100 km, it’s a terrific package.

2023 Audi TTS

The sporty variant of the TT coupe boasts a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine rated at 288 hp. It achieves a combined 9 L/100 km—premium fuel required.

2023 Audi S3

The S3 is a 306-hp sports sedan in a pint size, averaging 8.9 L/100 km in city-highway driving. Its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is shared with the Volkswagen Golf R (9.1 L/100 km).

2023 Toyota GR Supra 2.0

Surprised? Well, it’s true: the GR Supra is a fuel-efficient sports car, especially in 2.0 trim (255 hp). It needs just 8.6 L/100 km of premium gas. By the way, the 382-hp GR Supra 3.0 is rated at 9.1 L/100 km.

2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI

The Golf GTI is more than 40 years old and still one of the best when it comes to hot hatches. For 2023, the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine under the hood supplies 241 hp and achieves 8.5 L/100 km with the seven-speed DSG.

2023 BMW Z4 sDrive30i

Developed alongside the new Toyota GR Supra, the Z4 is rated at a combined 8.4 L/100 km when equipped with the base 2.0-litre engine (255 hp). Naturally, premium gas is required.

2023 MINI John Cooper Works 3 Door

MINI is an obvious candidate to appear on this list of fuel-efficient sporty cars. In JCW trim, the lightweight MINI 3 Door packs 228 hp and needs just 8.2 L/100 km of premium gas on average.

2023 Lexus LC 500h

The LC coupe is a luxury grand tourer available with a hybrid powertrain. In this configuration, you’re looking at 354 hp and a fuel consumption rating of 8.1 L/100 km. Awesome.

2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

Interestingly, the 228-hp Jetta GLI has the same fuel consumption rating with the six-speed manual gearbox and the seven-speed DSG—7.9 L/100 km. Even better, regular gas will suffice, here.

2023 Mazda MX-5

The legeendary two-seat roadster is all about lightness, efficiency and fun. The 181-hp MX-5 achieves 7.9 L/100 km with the optional six-speed autobox.
