10 of the Most Anticipated New Vehicles on the Road in 2024

Published on December 31, 2023 in Top 10 by The Car Guide

Planning to buy a brand new vehicle sometime in 2024? Or maybe take delivery of that long-awaited EV? Once again this year, a large selection of models are due to hit the road, some of them obviously more readily accessible than others.

The team at The Car Guide has compiled a list of 10 highly anticipated new vehicles that are expected to arrive in Canadian dealerships at one time or another in the next 12 months. Take a look!

2024 Honda Prologue/2024 Acura ZDX

Honda’s first all-electric vehicle in North America, the 2024 Prologue, was developed as part of a partnership with General Motors, so it rides on the Ultium platform and battery. The dual motors combine to generate an estimated 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft. of torque, while the 85kWh lithium-ion battery is said to deliver a range of more than 450 km, which is right on par with the best AWD-equipped competitors.

Pre-orders have already begun, with the first deliveries slated for spring 2024. The Prologue will be available in select provinces including British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec with a base MSRP in the mid-$60,000s, making it ineligible to the $5,000 EV rebate from the Canadian government. Don’t forget about the equally new ZDX from luxury brand Acura.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV

Unveiled at the very beginning of 2023, the 2024 Silverado EV is a highly anticipated electric pickup that we’ve been able to inspect at various auto shows. The first units in Canada should arrive this year (unless GM announces more delays) and give the Ford F-150 Lightning a serious run for its money.

Built on the same Ultium platform as the GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV will initially be available in two models starting with WT (Work Truck), which is rated at 510 hp and 615 lb-ft. of torque. It can tow up to 8,000 lbs. while the cargo bed has a payload of 1,200 lbs. The top-line RST model generates 660 hp and 780 lb-ft. of torque, so towing capacity is increased to 10,000 lbs. Chevrolet claims the Silverado EV can drive up to about 640 km with a full battery charge. Fast charging will be possible up to 350 kW.

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

Let’s stay with Chevrolet, which recently started production of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, the first-ever Corvette with a hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. It combines the Stingray’s 495-horsepower V8 engine with a front-mounted, 160-horsepower electric motor drawing energy from a 1.9kWh battery located under the centre console. Total output is 655 horsepower, good enough to sprint from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.5 seconds. EV range is a very modest 6 km—at speeds of no more than 70 km/h.

In Canada, pricing starts at $150,316 including destination, dealer fees and the inevitable luxury tax. In case you missed our first-drive review of the Corvette E-Ray, now’s the time to catch up.

2024 Ford F-150

Just because the F-150 has been topping sales charts in Canada for 13 years in a row (43 years in the U.S.) doesn’t mean Ford can rest on its laurels. So, for 2024, North America’s best-selling vehicle gets a number of changes including a new grille, an innovative Pro Access tailgate, new displays and more. The base 3.3-litre V6 is gone, but five other powertrain options remain (including a hybrid), ranging from 325-700 horsepower.

Reservations for the 2024 F-150 opened last September, while the official on-sale date is scheduled for early 2024. Click here for more information including prices.

2025 Ram 1500

On to the second best-selling vehicle in Canada. Like the F-150, the Ram 1500 gets a number of changes—not for 2024 but rather 2025. In addition to the updated exterior, there’s a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine—dubbed “Hurricane”— replacing the old but popular 5.7-litre HEMI V8 as an alternative to the standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6.

Another significant change is the new top-line Tungsten ultra-luxury model, possibly only rivaled by the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate. Meanwhile, inside the cabin, the standard 12-inch display is improved with higher resolution while a new 14.5-inch reconfigurable touchscreen is available. A segment-first 10.25-inch screen on the passenger side is optional, too. The 2025 Ram 1500 will go on sale in the first quarter of 2024, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

What, that’s a Santa Fe? You’d better believe it. Hyundai’s midsize SUV has undergone a radical transmission. While the polarizing exterior is somewhat inspired by Land Rover, the interior impresses with generous space and standard three-row seating.

Production of the Santa Fe Hybrid (6.7 L/100 km) takes place in South Korea, while models featuring the 2.5-litre turbo engine (277 hp) are built in Alabama. The latter will go on sale first, sometime in March 2024, while the hybrid units will arrive a few months later. If you like off-road driving, don’t miss the new Santa Fe XRT.

2024 Tesla Model 3

Tesla’s popular compact electric sedan has finally received a first serious update. The most significant changes to the exterior are up front, with a sharper bumper and headlights. Inside, the first thing that catches the attention is the ambient lighting strip running across the dashboard and extending into the revised door panels. The centre touchscreen is now slightly larger at 15.4 inches and integrates gear selection.

New technologies, extra sound-deadening materials and a bigger trunk in the rear are also part of the package. We’re still waiting for Canadian specs and pricing details, however.

2024 Toyota Tacoma

We bet more people are interested in the 2024 Tacoma than the 2025 Camry. The first units of the redesigned midsize truck will arrive in Canadian dealerships in January. The new turbo-four engine generates as much power (278 hp) and a lot more torque (317 lb-ft) than the old 3.5-litre V6. Later in 2024, more specifically in the spring, Tacomas equipped with the new i-Force Max hybrid powertrain (326 hp, 465 lb-ft) will go on sale.

2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz made its North American debut in long-wheelbase, three-row configuration last summer and will go on sale in mid-2024 as a 2025 model.

Here’s everything you need to know about the German electric minivan, except for prices, which have yet to be released. And don’t forget that the equally new 2025 ID.7 sedan is slated to hit the market at around the same time.

2025 Volvo EX30

Good things come in small packages, right? Unveiled in a Canadian premiere last summer in Montreal, the all-new EX30 is a subcompact electric crossover boasting pretty decent range and the fastest acceleration of any production Volvo to date. And pricing is quite attractive, too.

The Car Guide had the opportunity to test drive the EX30 in Spain several weeks ago, so don’t miss our review. Deliveries are expected to start this summer.
