Concept cars represent the dreams and ambitions of designers, as well as providing a glimpse of what the brand has in store for the years to come.

And it goes without saying that 2023 has been an eventful year. While some become production vehicles, and others are condemned to oblivion, they are still the stuff of dreams for car enthusiasts, whatever their fate.

Here are the top 10 most striking concepts of 2023.

1. Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA

Presented at the Munich Motor Show in Germany, the Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA represents the electric future at Benz, with ambitions to take on the Tesla Model 3 thanks to advanced powertrains and a range of up to 750 kilometres.

2. Mazda Iconic SP Concept

The Tokyo Motor Show was a colourful affair this year, especially when it came to small sports car unveilings. And Mazda didn't disappoint the automotive press with the unveiling of the Iconic SP concept. It represents the future of Mazda's small sports cars, and incorporates both an electric motor and a rotary engine to develop 365 horsepower.

3. BMW Vision Neue Klasse

BMW has unveiled the Neue Klasse Vision Concept, an evolution of the i Vision Dee Concept that signals a new era of sports cars from the Bavarian brand. This retro-looking concept will inspire the creation of both gasoline-powered and electric models.

4. Volkswagen ID.GTI Concept

The ID.GTI concept was designed to create an electric version of the sporty Golf GTI, and is one of 11 new electric vehicles that the brand intends to launch by 2027.

5. Nissan Hyper Force Concept

Boasting an apocalyptic exterior look, the Hyper Force is one of a series of concepts unveiled by Nissan at the Tokyo Motor Show. With its 1,341 hp and e-4ORCE all-wheel drive, this concept's body is made entirely of carbon fiber.

6. Lamborghini Lanzador Concept

Presented as part of Monterey Car Week in California at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, Lamborghini's Lanzador concept is a 2+2 GT with two electric motors. Combined power ranks in at 1,340 hp!

7. Aegis Concept

This sumptuous electric coupe is a styling exercise created by designers from Volvo, Volkswagen and BMW. The Aegis concept represents the purity and beauty of the automobile in the modern age, without artifice or an overabundance of technology.

8. Audi EP4 Concept

Designed by twelve future automotive technicians and engineers trained by Audi, the EP4 concept is a modernized (and electrified) version of a classic car: the Prinz 4 (1961-1973). Powered by a 236 hp electric motor from a 2020 Audi e-tron, this wacky concept incorporates a host of modern technologies in a compact format.

9. Lancia Pu+Ra HPE Concept

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept is a nod to Lancia's prestigious past, recalling the legendary Aurelia sedan of the 50s and dressed in the bluish green of the Flaminia of the 60s.

10. Jeep Magneto 3.0 Concept

As part of the 2021 edition of the Jeep Easter Safari, the Jeep brand unveiled the first Magneto concept armed with a 285 hp electric powertrain mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. After unveiling the 625-hp Jeep Magneto 2.0 in 2022, Jeep is back with a third iteration of the concept in 2023, now developing 650 hp and 900 lb-ft of torque.
