New vehicle sales in Canada jumped nearly 12 percent in 2023, marking the biggest yearly increase since 1997. That being said, the industry’s performance the previous year was the worst since the recession-plagued 2009.

Clearly, the significant price hikes and high interest rates have yet to make a real impact on sales, but things could be different in 2024 as pent-up demand from the pandemic continues to wane.

SUVs and pickups accounted for just shy of 86 percent of total new vehicle sales in the country in 2023, which is an all-time high, of course.
