Takata's Recall Hits Japan

So far, pretty much every vehicle in the Takata recall –where a defective inflator could over-inflate the airbags, which could then explode and send shrapnel into the passenger’s face– has been located in North America, and more specifically in regions where high temperature and increased humidity could exacerbate the risk of failure. However, the latest wave of recalls hits closer to home for Takata; Honda has announced that they will have to recall a bunch of vehicles in Japan.

Affected models are the MDX (built in Canada and sold as an Acura here, the LaGreat (which we know here as the Odyssey), the Element and the Inspire (which is our Accord; in Japan, the car they know as the Accord is actually our Acura TSX… simple, right?).

All cars were built between 2002 and 2008, and there are almost 340,000 units included.

This latest recall brings the total number of vehicles fitted with defective Takata airbags to over 50 million.
