The 2016 Ford Focus RS Wants to Play in the Snow

When the Ford Focus RS arrives in dealerships next spring, buyers will obviously drive them right away. In fall, however, a few of these hot hatches will be stored for the winter.

This is a mistake: Ford’s engineers took a lot of time to perfect the RS’ AWD system in the snow; this car promises to be ridiculously fun to drive when the weather turns cold.

To convince their customers to try out their cars in the snow, Ford will offer them a set of winter tires.

That’s right. Every Focus RS sold in Canada will get two sets of wheels and tires: four Michelin Sport Cup 2 gumballs on 19-inch wheels for the summer, and four Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires on 18-inch wheels painted silver – the latter will helping camouflage the road salt’s colour.

This is the first time an automaker equips a car with snow tires as standard equipment in Canada.

With a size of 225/40R18, the winter tires are a little smaller than the summer units, which will help if you'd want to install chains.
